Data Tools & Resources

This page highlights data tools our team has developed to support chronic pain, opioid use disorder, and health services research. These resources focus on making real‑world data more findable, interoperable, and AI‑ready, from standardized MME calculation to OMOP mapping and NIH HEAL data commons infrastructure. Each tool is designed to help research teams and health systems move more quickly from raw data to reproducible insights and implementation‑focused care improvements.

NIH HEAL MME Calculator & Data Collection Tool

This tool provides a standardized way to calculate morphine milligram equivalents (MME) for opioid research, including complex regimens and buprenorphine. Built for NIH HEAL–funded studies, it supports consistent MME and MMEDay calculations across opioids and time windows so results are comparable across projects. Researchers can use either a REDCap data collection interface or a web‑based calculator, making it easy to integrate into existing workflows.

  • Standardizes MME and MMEDay calculations across 29 opioid medications.

  • Built from a corpus of over 269,000 research articles (1949–present) to align with the evidence base.

  • Supports four distinct time‑window definitions for flexible study designs.

  • Designed to harmonize opioid exposure measures across HEAL and allied studies.
